Summer has begun!
And we've been working hard.....
Our "new to us" house is FINALLY empty! And we have been working hard for the past few days on getting it kinda cleaned up. We've have taken a big job under our belts and we're just grabbing roots and growling all the way.
This is littlest bedroom in the house, its going to be our guest room. To get it up to snuff its going to need wall, door repairs, new carpet, paint and windows.
This is the upstairs bathroom. Don't you just love our harvest gold bathtub? In order to hide the hideous, I'm going to paint the walls a golden yellow. To get it looking better it needs, new flooring, vanity, mirror, and paint.
This is going to be our room.
It needs paint, carpet, a closet door, and new windows.
Behind the door with the fan is going to be Baby Girl's room.
Even though its one foot bigger than room that chose for us, we thought this room will suit her well. It needs shined up with some new paint, flooring, windows and wall repairs.
And if you can't tell we ripped out all the nasty carpeting. And tell me please who is crazy enough to carpet their bathroom!? And once Dean got the carpet out of the bathroom, we soon discovered that there was still linoleum under the carpet and that it was glued down with tar pitch. Ugh.
And now for my personal favorite in the WHOLE house!
The awesome linen closest! Its probably about 3' plus deep and 4' wide! PLUS it has three drawers!
I'm so excited at the thought of putting things away in this!
~Fresh towels, Sheets, Blankets~
~Sigh.~
By the end of today we got all the nasty carpeting ripped out . Tomorrow we have to rip out a little more carpet padding out and then we can begin another project. Which I'm not sure what thats going to be but I'll be sure to let you know.
This is our first d.i.y. project as a married couple. It has taken a lot of work to get the house to look this good. And we know it going to take so much more.
So we want to know what is on summer d.i.y. project list?
And what is the biggest d.i.y. project you ever done?
~Dean and Bethany~
Well, I had quite a few DIY projects on my list, but since it looks like the house will be demolished, I'm not going to do anything.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest DIY project was turning a storage room at church into my office. We had to replace part of the ceiling, I took off the furring strips and taped and mudded the walls, painted, put up trim (okay, I had a couple of guys in the church put the trim up, but hey, I painted it. ;) ) ripped out carpet, sanded and painted the floors and doors. It was a total rehab. I love doing things like that, though.
I'm glad to hear that church is going to take of the housing situation for you guys!
DeleteLooks like the bones of the house are good. Good opportunity for you and Dean to work together!
ReplyDeleteThe biggest project I was involved in was the house my grandparents bought at sheriff's sale when I was 14. The man who lived there previously had some "issues" and cut a hole in the living room wall, put in a coal stove, and burned tires in it! There were buckets of lye in the basement b/c he felt he was under attack. Oh yes, that's just the highlights. We had to strip it down to the bare wood and start over again all that summer.
It does have good bones, that's what makes the condition of the house soo frustrating! We just can't wrap our minds around how someone can treat a house that doesn't belong to them like that. . .
DeleteSounds like of the rednecks around home. Lol
Be wary of humidity when painting or using polyeurathane. Can totally triple dry time or ruin the paint job. Don't be scared to try something yourself. We tore up old linoleum squares in th kitchen with a rough plywood subfloor and found an unfinished soft yellow pine planked floor. It was janky but after renting a floor sander and finding a stain that matched the oak flooring in the dining room, we loved our new kitchen floor that already had that great "patina". We did that kitchen from floor to ceiling. What we thought would take 3 weeks took 3 months... And our fridge broke in the middle of it.
ReplyDeleteHave patience with the projects, more importantly with each other. Turn to family and the Internet for how-to help. We also gutted our only bathroom the day after Christmas with a 3 yr. Old and 4 mo. Old baby. I went to the store with the kids and came home to Craig hanging his feet from the bathroom floor joists (our living room now had a "vaulted ceiling"). Caleb used a cuss word to describe the scene. I spent a night in the ER with BP thru the roof from the stress. When Craig went back to work 4 days later I called a contractor. It was 3 weeks later the bathroom remodel was done. Glad we knew when to call in an expert.
