Spearman's Restaurant

Last night no one felt like making supper so we went out. We went to the little blip of a town Millwood,Oh to the former gas station/repair shop called Spearman's Restaurant . Don't let its former life turn you off even though you can still fill up your car there. Spearman's has been a community favorite for many, many years. It was only in recent years that my family rediscovered it . And there has been no regrets. They have a different menu for every day of the week and that is no joke. Last night I had chicken and dumplings with mashed potatoes. Dean had crab cakes and fried potatoes . Then come dessert !  A slice of pecan pie for Dean and my mother and I split a giant hot fudge brownie sundae. And my father a slice of coconut cream pie . Their most famous dessert is fresh strawberry pie which is a whole quarter of a pie piled with whipped cream. Overall Spearman's has a lasting impressions on all of us. We have and will continue the short little jont up the road to Millwood and we hope you will too if your in the neighborhood .

Summer has begun!

And we've been working hard..... Our "new to us" house is FINALLY empty! And we have been working hard for the past few days on getting it kinda cleaned up. We've have taken a big job under our belts and we're just grabbing roots and growling all the way.                                                                              This is littlest bedroom in the house, its going to be our guest room.  To get it up to snuff its going to need wall, door repairs, new carpet, paint and windows.   This is the upstairs bathroom. Don't you just love our harvest gold bathtub? In order to hide the hideous, I'm going to paint the walls a golden yellow.  To get it looking better it needs, new flooring, vanity, mirror, and paint.    This is going to be our room.  It needs paint, carpet, a closet door, and new windows.    Behind the door with the fan is going to be Baby Girl's room. Whistle While You Work...

And when your done you'll groan in pain.  We have been working hard on the house and its been working on us.  We have gotten all the of the flooring ripped up.  And these are my tools of the day                                                    Knee Pads and needle nose pilers.  You say "Bethany? What are you doing?" This! BLOODY! HORRIBLE STAPLES !  I pulled hundreds! HUNDREDS! Of staples! And this was just the stair case. Every. single. carpeted. room. was like this.  So while I did this method on the stair case, we used a side walk edger (which back in the day in my great-grandma's barn we used one as a manure scraper.) It knocked the staples out pretty well, even though we will still have to go through the house and pull the stragglers. Soup its Whats for Supper !

Since I was a little girl I have always loved Olive Garden. Mainly all you can eat soup, bread sticks and salad. Ok, ok, nix the salad in that. I love soup and bread sticks!  When they came out with Zuppa Tuscana not only was I in love with it but my whole family was. We have been known to sit and analyze our bowls of soup to try and figure out what makes it the best.  I never tried to make it until after I married Dean. My first try I followed a copy-cat recipe. It was ok but it wasn't "IT".   While cruising along the produce department of the grocery store I decided to try and make Zuppa again. I'm so glad I did.  But this time I didn't use a recipe. I used my taste buds and memory of what it should taste like.  It was so close to having the actual stuff that in a blind taste test it would have been very,very close.  Along with the soup I set the bread machine out to mix up some dough for bread sticks.
